Four Marbella Hotels, Four Different Ways to Experience the Costa del Sol

Stayed in Marbella, Spain | September 2026

Marbella has a reputation for glitz, yacht-filled marinas and beach clubs, but after spending a full month on the Costa del Sol, I discovered that the best places to stay are often the ones that show you a calmer side of the coast.

I spent September moving between four very different 4-star stays: an adults-focused spa hotel on the New Golden Mile, a quiet boutique guesthouse in a residential neighbourhood, a hillside villa with sweeping Mediterranean views, and a modern beach hotel between Puerto Banús and Marbella town.

One thing I've learned from travelling is that the right hotel is not about the number of stars on the door. It's about whether the place suits the kind of trip you want, gives you a great night's sleep and makes exploring easy.

If you're planning a visit this year, these are the four Marbella hotels I'd happily recommend in Part 1 of this series.

1. THE FLAG Hotel Marbella: A Spa Retreat on the New Golden Mile

Estepona / Marbella, Costa del Sol, Spain | Stayed early September

My Marbella stay began just outside the busiest part of town, on the stretch of coast known as the New Golden Mile. It's the kind of location that gives you the best of both worlds: close enough to reach Puerto Banús and the beaches, yet far enough away to feel properly relaxed.

THE FLAG Hotel Marbella is a 4-star, adults-recommended property with just 77 air-conditioned accommodations. That small size gives it a calm, personal feel that larger resorts rarely manage.

What really sets this hotel apart is how well it is set up for longer stays. Accommodations feature kitchenettes with full-size refrigerators, separate dining areas and separate sitting areas, so it feels more like a stylish apartment than a standard hotel room. Many have terraces or balconies, and some of the top-category rooms include private pools and sea views.

My room felt more like a stylish apartment than a hotel room, with plenty of space to spread out, a comfortable bed and a calm atmosphere that made it easy to switch off at the end of each day.

The wellness facilities are another highlight. There is a full-service spa offering massages, facials and body scrubs, along with a sauna, steam room, gym and an outdoor pool surrounded by greenery and palm trees. After a day exploring the coast, it was an easy place to switch off.

The location works well too. Puerto Banús Marina is a short drive away, there is a golf course next door, and a Greek restaurant, Ammos, is only about an 8-minute walk from the hotel.

I loved starting the day with a relaxed breakfast, and the terrace and pool area were lovely places to unwind in the evening.

Stayed: Early September

Best for: Couples, longer stays, spa lovers and golfers who want a quieter base near Puerto Banús.

Would I stay again?

Absolutely.

If I'm back on the New Golden Mile, THE FLAG would be at the top of my shortlist.

2. Aurora Boutique Marbella: A Quiet Adults-Only Hideaway

Marbella, Costa del Sol, Spain | Stayed mid September

After the first stay, I wanted something even more peaceful, and Aurora Boutique delivered exactly that.

Tucked away on Calle Incosol in a quiet residential area, this recently renovated adults-only guesthouse feels more like a stylish private home than a traditional hotel. It is intimate, thoughtfully designed and run by hosts who clearly care about the guest experience.

The outdoor spaces are the real draw. There is a swimming pool with a view, a lush garden, a terrace and a hot tub, and the whole property is built around slowing down. Free bicycles are available for guests, and there is a bar with an honesty-bar style setup for evening drinks.

My room was beautifully styled, spotless and wonderfully peaceful, and the hosts' warm welcome made me feel at home from the moment I arrived.

Breakfast deserves a special mention. It is served daily with continental, à la carte, vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options, featuring local specialities, fresh fruit, juices and cheeses. It's the kind of breakfast that makes you linger at the table.

One thing to know before you book: because it sits in a residential neighbourhood, there aren't many restaurants or shops within walking distance. The beach at El Pinillo is about a 16-minute walk away, but for dinner you'll probably want a taxi or a car. For me, that was a fair trade for the peace and quiet.

Stayed: Mid September

Best for: Couples, romantic getaways and travellers who want a peaceful, adults-only escape.

Would I stay again?

Definitely.

It's one of the most relaxing places I stayed in Marbella.

3. B&B Muse Marbella: Mountain Views and Andalusian Charm

Hacienda los Canasteros, near Ojén, Marbella, Spain | Stayed end of September

For my third stay, I headed up into the hills, and the views alone made it worthwhile.

B&B Muse Marbella is a luxury villa set on a hillside, roughly 10 minutes' drive from the beaches and close to the small village of Ojén. With just four rooms, it feels like staying with friends who happen to have impeccable taste.

Every room has its own terrace with panoramic Mediterranean views, and the rustic Andalusian-style decor adds a lot of character. Inside, there is a large lounge with a fireplace, a library, a piano and several terraces for soaking up the scenery. A seasonal outdoor pool and a garden complete the picture.

My room was full of charm, and sitting out on the terrace taking in the view became the highlight of each day. The hosts were warm, helpful and happy to share their local tips.

Breakfast is a highlight here. A buffet is served in the communal lounge between 9:00 and 11:00, and guests often mention eating it while looking out over the mountains and the sea.

Because the villa is up in the hills, you will want a car. Marbella's beaches and old town are a short drive away, and the setting makes it a wonderful place to come back to each evening.

Stayed: End of September

Best for: Couples, scenic escapes and travellers who love boutique, personal service.

Would I stay again?

Without question.

If you want to wake up to mountain and sea views, this is the one.

4. Eurostars Ocean Marbella: A Modern Base Between Puerto Banús and Marbella

My final stay was Eurostars Ocean Marbella, a stylish 4-star hotel that sits between Puerto Banús and Marbella town. It was a great way to finish the month because it combines a relaxed resort feel with easy access to both.

The hotel has 68 rooms, all with a private balcony or patio, and the contemporary design feels fresh and well kept. Outside, there are two swimming pools (including a children's pool), a tranquil garden, a poolside bar, a terrace and a sauna.

My room was bright, modern and comfortable, with a private balcony, a very good night's sleep and friendly, helpful staff throughout.

A complimentary buffet breakfast is served each morning from 8:00 to 11:00, and the hotel's restaurant serves Mediterranean dishes if you'd rather stay in for dinner.

The location is a real plus. The beach is about an 8-minute walk away, Puerto Banús is roughly 15 to 20 minutes on foot, and Marbella town is a short taxi or bus ride. Hotel bike hire also makes it easy to cycle the flat coastal path. Just note that there are few restaurants directly outside the hotel, so plan on heading to Puerto Banús or Marbella in the evening.

Stayed: End of September

Best for: Couples, beach holidays and travellers who want a modern hotel with good access to both Puerto Banús and Marbella.

Would I stay again?

Yes, without hesitation.

It was the perfect way to wrap up my time on the Costa del Sol.

Four Hotels, Four Different Marbellas

Looking back, it's hard to pick a favourite because each hotel showed me a different side of Marbella.

THE FLAG gave me a spa-focused base on the New Golden Mile. Aurora Boutique was the quiet, adults-only hideaway. B&B Muse offered hillside views and real Andalusian character. And Eurostars Ocean Marbella proved to be the easy, modern choice between Puerto Banús and the old town.

Together, they reminded me that a great stay isn't about luxury for its own sake. It's about comfort after a long day, friendly hosts, a good breakfast and feeling excited to come back each evening.

These are the hotels I'd happily recommend to anyone planning a trip to Marbella in 2026. Stay tuned for Part 2, where I'll share more of my favourite places to stay on the Costa del Sol.
