How I Found My Favorite Spots (and Parties) in Mykonos

After a few days of wandering quiet backstreets, sipping coffee in tiny local cafés, and soaking up the slower rhythm of Mykonos, I decided it was time to turn up the volume a little. This island has a reputation for its party side, and it felt wrong to leave without dipping my toes into it. I swapped my cosy little hideaways for stays at Rocabella Mykonos and Cubic Hotel Mykonos - two places that know exactly how to mix style, comfort, and a little bit of glamour. It wasn’t about going full “all-night rave” mode, but more about enjoying the social side of the island - meeting people, finding lively spots, and letting the place surprise me.

Hotel Highlights

Three Nights at Yiannaki

I stayed three nights at Yiannaki Hotel, and it turned out to be a great base for exploring the island.

The interior was simple - nothing over the top, just clean and comfortable, which I actually appreciated after long days out exploring.

The location worked perfectly. Ornos Beach was only about a ten-minute walk away, so it was easy to wander down for a swim or just hang out by the water. There’s also a bus stop right nearby, which made getting into Mykonos Town quick and hassle-free.

My room was nice, with a balcony that looked out over the pool. I ended up spending more time out there than I expected - having a snack in the late afternoon, or a drink before heading out in the evening. The pool itself was beautiful, and right next to it there’s a restaurant where they serve the breakfast buffet each morning.

The staff were kind and ready to help when I needed something, whether it was directions or sorting out my bags for transportation. They made check-in and check-out easy, which is always a relief when you’re traveling alone.

If I had to point out one thing I didn’t love, it would be the gym. It was tucked away in a small, hot space that didn’t feel great for working out. But honestly, with all the walking and exploring I did around the island, I didn’t miss it much.

Overall, I’d definitely recommend Yiannaki Hotel if you’re visiting Mykonos. It’s quiet, clean, close to the beach, and has some lovely views. A nice choice if you want somewhere comfortable to come back to after a day in the sun.

Cubic Hotel

Got to check out another hotel - Cubic Hotel - and wow, what a spot! The place is absolutely stunning (felt like it was straight out of a magazine). Right across from Ornos Beach, with amazing panoramic views of the Aegean Sea.

My room had this great balcony with a tiny private pool overlooking the sea, which quickly became my favorite hangout. The bed was ridiculously comfy. Every morning, breakfast showed up at my door - lots of fruit and high-quality products. Plus, little surprises like snacks and treats popped up throughout my stay, which was a nice touch.

There’s a small gym if you’re into squeezing in a workout, and a spa if you’re more about relaxing and recharging. The staff were warm and welcoming without being intrusive, which kept the whole experience easygoing and enjoyable.

One thing to note: while Ornos Beach is gorgeous and right there, sunbeds and umbrellas come at a cost since the hotel doesn’t manage them. It’s something to be prepared for if you plan on spending a lot of time lounging on the beach.

If you want a place that’s stylish but chill, clean but cozy, with amazing views and thoughtful service, Ornos Cubic hits the mark. Would happily go back.

Where Dinner Turns into a Dance Party

It’s time to get the party started, and in Mykonos, that means finding a place where dinner comes with a side of chaos. Scandinavian Bar is exactly that.

Forget quiet candlelit meals - here, the music’s blasting, the cocktails are flowing, and before long, people are literally dancing on the tables like it’s some kind of Olympic sport. It’s right in the middle of Mykonos Town, drawing in a mix of locals, tourists, and the occasional party veteran who clearly hasn’t slept since last summer.

You start off with Mediterranean bites and drinks that hit hard enough to loosen you up. One minute you’re politely eating grilled prawns, the next you’re standing on a table, arms in the air, singing along to a song you didn’t even know you knew.

Honestly, I had a great night - made a couple of friends, enjoyed good food, great music, and that kind of atmosphere where “Should we dance on the table?” isn’t a question but a given. Come for dinner, stay for the madness, and don’t be surprised if you end up making breakfast plans with the people you met at 2 a.m.

Little Venice: A Morning with a Story

Let me throw an idea your way for an unforgettable breakfast - Little Venice in Mykonos.

This place isn’t just some pretty postcard. It’s got a backstory that’s as rough and real as the sea it sits beside. Back in the 1700s, it was home to tough sea captains and merchants who built their houses right on the water’s edge. They had secret basements down there to haul in goods, sometimes more than just the legal kind. Fast forward to today, those same buildings have been cleaned up and turned into cafés and bars, their balconies hanging over the waves.

I grabbed a spot at a café so close to the water I half expected a wave to splash my shoes. The morning air was sharp with salt, the sun still low, and the world waking up slow. A strong black coffee hit the table, along with some warm, flaky pastries that tasted simple but damn good - exactly what you want after a night out or a long travel day.

Watching the local shop owners open up, fishing boats cruise out into the Aegean, and the quiet buzz of the first wanderers felt like a reward in itself.

Trust me, it’s one of those places that makes you pause, take it all in, and maybe even scribble down a line or two - if you’re feeling poetic, that is.

My Special Lunch Spot by the Sea

Finding Kiki’s Tavern is a bit of a treasure hunt - it’s tucked away by Agios Sostis Beach, known mostly to locals and those in the know. There’s zero touristy fluff here, just pure, authentic Mykonos magic. The moment you arrive, it feels like stepping into grandma’s kitchen, but with that unbeatable seaside charm.

The place is small, and yes, there’s almost always a wait for a table, but trust me, it’s worth it. While you wait, the lovely owner welcomes you with a glass of rose wine, instantly making you feel like part of the family. The queue itself is almost part of the experience: guests are playfully ‘assigned’ spots, all while sipping wine and chatting, soaking in the salty sea air.

Once seated, they bring you homemade bread with local olive oil to dip - simple but addictively good. The portions are generous. I went for the grilled octopus and squid, and honestly, they were juicy, tender, and packed with that perfect smoky char straight from the grill. The views are dreamy. It isn’t just a meal, it’s a must-visit experience.

Golden Hour Magic by the Lighthouse

To keep this romantic vibe going, I’ve got to tell you about one of the most beautiful sunset spots on Mykonos - Armenistis Lighthouse.

This old lighthouse has been standing guard since the late 19th century, perched on a rugged cliff on the northern tip of the island. It’s not just a beacon for ships, it’s a front-row seat to some seriously epic views.

Getting there is pretty straightforward. Rent a scooter or grab a car and head north from Mykonos Town. The road winds along the coast, and after about 20 minutes, you’ll find yourself at the lighthouse. There’s a small parking area, then a short walk up the hill to the best viewing spots.

Here’s a tip: pack some snacks and maybe a bottle of something to drink, find a comfy spot on the grassy hill, and just feel like you are in a movie. It is one of those moments that’s raw, real, and truly unforgettable.
