The Best Places to Eat in Baiona, Spain. Three Spots I'd Happily Return To
Stayed in Baiona, Galicia | May 29 – June 2
I arrived in Baiona on May 29 looking for a few quieter days after travelling through Spain, and it ended up being one of those places that completely slows your pace without you even noticing. Compared with some of Spain's bigger destinations, Baiona feels refreshingly authentic. The old town is compact, the marina is always full of life, and everywhere you turn there's another view of the Atlantic that makes you stop for a moment.
For this trip I stayed at Hotel Boutique Faro Silleiro, a beautifully restored lighthouse sitting on the rugged coastline about 10 minutes from Baiona. It was the perfect base because I could spend the day exploring the town before returning to complete peace overlooking the ocean. If you're interested in the hotel, I've written a full review covering the rooms, breakfast, facilities and what it was actually like sleeping inside a working lighthouse.

Baiona itself doesn't need a long itinerary. I spent most of my time wandering around the old town, walking the walls of Monterreal Fortress, enjoying the marina and driving out towards Cabo Silleiro for some incredible Atlantic views. It's the kind of place where you don't feel the need to rush because simply being there is part of the experience.
Of course, no trip is complete without finding somewhere for a great coffee, a proper lunch and a memorable dinner, and these were the three places that became part of my stay.

One of the things I enjoy most when travelling is finding somewhere that makes breakfast feel like more than just the first meal of the day, and the Parador de Baiona does exactly that. Even if you're not staying at the hotel, it's well worth stopping by for breakfast, not only because of the food but because of the setting. Sitting outside the historic Monterreal Fortress, it's hard to think of a better place to begin the morning.
I arrived just after breakfast service had started and made a beeline for one of the outdoor tables overlooking the Atlantic. It was too nice a morning to sit inside. From the terrace you can look out across the ocean while the old walls of Monterreal Fortress frame the coastline, and it didn't take long to realise why so many people recommend coming here for breakfast. With a fresh coffee in front of me and nothing but the sound of the sea in the background, there wasn't any reason to be anywhere else.
The breakfast buffet offers a little bit of everything, including freshly baked pastries, artisan breads, seasonal fruit, Spanish cheeses, cured meats, eggs cooked to order and plenty of local Galician products. I kept things fairly simple with scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, toasted bread, local cheeses and a decaf coffee, which was exactly what I needed before heading off to explore Baiona for the day. Everything tasted fresh, the presentation was excellent and the staff made me feel welcome without ever being intrusive.
Breakfast here is certainly more of an experience than grabbing a quick coffee in town, but I thought it was well worth it. Expect to pay around €25–35 per person, depending on whether you're visiting as a hotel guest or simply booking breakfast.
What I ordered: Scrambled eggs, fresh fruit, local cheeses, toasted bread and a decaf coffee.
Price: Approximately €25–35 per person.
Best for: A relaxed breakfast with spectacular Atlantic views inside one of Galicia's most historic buildings.

After spending the morning wandering around Baiona and walking the walls of Monterreal Fortress, I was ready for a proper lunch, and Asador María Eugenia turned out to be exactly what I was looking for. Known locally for its grilled meats and traditional Galician cooking, it's one of those restaurants where the quality of the ingredients speaks for itself.
The restaurant has a smart but comfortable feel, with a spacious dining room, warm wooden finishes and an open terrace that's particularly popular on sunny afternoons. I decided to sit outside, enjoying the fresh sea air while watching people wander past on their way towards the waterfront. Although the restaurant is well known, it still feels relaxed rather than overly formal, making it somewhere you can comfortably settle in for a long lunch.
The menu focuses on premium grilled meats, fresh seafood and seasonal Galician produce. Since a great steak is difficult for me to resist, I ordered the Galician beef sirloin served with roasted potatoes and a fresh garden salad. The steak arrived perfectly cooked, beautifully tender and packed with flavour, while the roasted potatoes were crisp on the outside and wonderfully fluffy inside. Looking around the dining room, seafood platters and grilled fish seemed to be just as popular, so there's something here whether you're craving meat or seafood.
With mains generally ranging between €20 and €30, I thought the quality easily justified the price, especially considering both the generous portions and the attentive service.

Lugar Baredo, s/n, 36300 Baiona | Lunch & Dinner Daily | Around 6 minutes by car from Hotel Boutique Faro Silleiro
For my final dinner in Baiona, I wanted somewhere that combined great food with a memorable setting, and Restaurante Rocamar delivered exactly that. Perched above the Atlantic coastline just outside the town, the restaurant has been welcoming diners for decades and has built a reputation as one of the area's most respected seafood restaurants.
I arrived in the early evening and immediately requested a table outside overlooking the ocean. With panoramic views across the Atlantic and waves crashing against the rocks below, it was one of those locations where you find yourself spending the first few minutes simply taking in the scenery before even opening the menu. As the sun slowly began dropping towards the horizon, the whole coastline seemed to glow, making it easy to understand why so many people consider Rocamar one of the best dining spots around Baiona.
The atmosphere strikes a nice balance between refined and relaxed. The dining room feels elegant without being stuffy, while the outdoor terrace allows the views to take centre stage. Service throughout the evening was attentive and professional, but never overly formal.
Although the restaurant is particularly well known for its seafood, there are plenty of options for those who prefer meat. After looking through the menu, I started with the grilled scallops, which arrived beautifully presented and packed with flavour. For my main course, I chose the Galician beef sirloin served with roasted potatoes and seasonal vegetables. The beef was cooked exactly as requested, wonderfully tender and full of flavour, while the roasted potatoes and vegetables complemented it perfectly without trying to steal the spotlight.
This is very much a restaurant where quality ingredients are allowed to speak for themselves. Every dish felt carefully prepared, and combined with the setting, it made for one of the most enjoyable meals of my stay in Baiona.
Expect to spend somewhere between €40 and €100 per person, depending on your choice of dishes and wine. It isn't the cheapest dinner in town, but for a special evening overlooking the Atlantic, I thought it was well worth it.
What I ordered: Grilled scallops followed by Galician beef sirloin with roasted potatoes and seasonal vegetables.
Price: €40–100 per person.
Best for: A memorable dinner with spectacular Atlantic views and one of the most scenic dining locations near Baiona.
Would I Come Back?
Without hesitation.
Baiona isn't trying to be Spain's next big tourist destination, and I hope it stays that way. It's the sort of town where you can spend the morning walking along medieval walls, enjoy a long lunch without feeling rushed and finish the evening watching the Atlantic with a great meal in front of you.
Five days felt like just the right amount of time to settle into the rhythm of the town, but I could easily have stayed longer. If you're planning a trip through Galicia and want somewhere with history, fantastic food, beautiful scenery and a much more relaxed atmosphere than Spain's larger cities, Baiona is well worth adding to your itinerary.
